Seven players from Thompson are among the 17 members of the Norman Director’s Cup Prospects team of bantam-aged players born in 2005 that recently competed at a two-game development tournament in Morden.

Gus Little, Gorov Ghai, Ethan Portey, Madexx Long, Cayden Nychyporuk, Caleb Richcoon and Ethan Johnstone are the Thompson players on the team, which also includes Tanner Werbicki, Tye Burke, Joey Lies, Logan Salamondra and Christopher Francouer of Flin Flon as well as Ethan McLean, Jacob Kuzmiak and Connor Slugoski of Creighton, Saskatchewan, Hutton Foster of The Pas and Embry Roberts of Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan.

Greg Long of Thompson and Greg Kritzer of Flin Flon are the coaches and Shelley Foster of The Pas manages the team, while Thompson’s Cash Long is the team assistant.

The players were selected after a Jan. 27 tryout in Snow Lake.

“A lot of the players have been on opposing teams for years, but formed friendships between games, while spending time at various arenas,” says Shelley Foster. “To have the opportunity to play together was a great experience and much fun.”

The Director’s Cup Prospects program wraps up with a tournament in Winnipeg May 3-5, when players will play four games with mixed-region teams.
