The Thompson Solar Bears took all three games they played under sunny skies on Saturday to qualify for Sunday’s playoffs, when they continued to go undefeated for four more games, finishing off with a 6-3 win over the Stick Figures in the final after beating the Bockstael Sweepers 1-0 in the semifinals and the Greasy Beavers 7-1 in the game before that.

“Playoffs were in the pouring rain but the boys managed to come out victorious after four hard-ought games against the top teams in the tournament,” said Kraychuk.

The players received hockey bags and gold medals for their victory, which was fuelled by energy drinks and smart bars provided by USANA.

Some of the player have competed in the annual tournament before, finishing third in 2015 and sixth last year before taking top spot in the latest edition.

“Took us three years to figure it out and a couple of roster changes,” Kraychuk said. “Greatness is earned, never awarded.”
