Thompson skaters shine at Norman regional STARSkate Championships and FUNSkate

The Pas Skating Club hosted the 2019 Skate Canada Manitoba Norman regional STARSkate Championships and FUNSkate Jan. 26. Skaters from the Norman region braved the elements and travelled to participate in the various skating events. Skate Thompson skaters were fantastic! They dazzled the judges with their glides, edges, turns, spins and jumps.

Amy Shier competed in STAR 9 and 10 FreeSkate and Gold Elements. Amy received her personal best score for her short and long programs. Amy also amazed the audience with her Gold Interpretive “My Two Passions.” Awesome skating, Amy!

Emily Penney competed in STAR 8 FreeSkate and Gold Interpretive program which was called “AStruggle Within.” Super skating, Emily!

Sydney Power, Jenna Shier and Ava White competed in STAR 6 FreeSkate and Elements. Sydney, Jenna and Ava received personal best scores for their long programs. In the STAR 6 FreeSkate event Sydney placed first, Jenna placed second and Ava placed third. The girls delighted the audience with their stunning performances.

Bridgette Caddy competed in STAR 5 FreeSkate and STAR 6 Elements. Bridgette received her personal best score in her long program. Bridgette placed fourth in her Freeskate program. Awesome skating, Bridgette!

In the STAR 6 team event Skate Thompson captured a gold medal. Way to go, Sydney, Bridgette, Jenna and Ava!

Charly Boychuk skated her way to a first place in the STAR 5 FreeSkate. Charly also competed in STAR 5 Elements.

Jessica Smud placed second in the STAR 5 FreeSkate. Jessica also competed in STAR 5 Elements. Jessica debuted her Silver Interpretive program ”Playing with My Friend.” She captured the gold medal for her delightful performance.

Kaitlyn Krentz captured the bronze medal with her beautiful performance in the STAR 5 FreeSkate. Kaitlyn also competed in the STAR 5 Elements.

Elizabeth Phillips competed in the STAR 5 U/10 FreeSkate and STAR 5 Element event. Elizabeth had her personal best score in her program. Awesome skating, Elizabeth!

The STAR 5 Team of Jessica, Charly, Kaitlyn and Elizabeth placed first.Outstanding, girls!

Harper Caldwell competed in STAR 4 U/10 FreeSkate and STAR 4 Elements. Harper captured the gold medal with her amazing performance!

Jemiha and William Hart competed in Special Olympics Level 3 FreeSkate. Both skaters rocked the house with their superb skates. Jemiha and William also competed in STAR 1 FreeSkate. They both skated outstanding!

Iris and Jasmin Basallo captured gold in the CANSkate 6 Element. This event is geared towards skaters in the CANSkate program. It is a great chance for the skaters to showcase their new skills in a fun and interactive environment. After each skater performs the element, the Referee will call an assessment of gold, silver, bronze or merit according to the criteria for CANSkate standards. Skaters will receive a report card and a ribbon. Awesome skating, Iris and Jasmin!

Congratulations to all the Skate Thompson Norman Achievement winners. Most dedicated program assistant went to Jessica Smud and Jenna Shier. STARSkate Congeniality Award went to Bridgette Caddy. Most Enthusiastic CANSkate Award went to Alice Cachada. Most Dedicated STARSkate Athlete Award went to Amy Shier. Region Volunteer Award went to Angela Bakos-Shier. Norman Region Officials Award went to Don Brown. Norman Director’s Award(decided by the judges) went to Harper Caldwell.
