Thompson player selected in Canadian Women’s Hockey League draft

Former Norman Wild captain Kendra Hanson of Thompson was selected in the 10th round of the 2018 Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) draft by the Calgary Inferno.

Hanson, who plays centre for the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks, led the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference with 26 points in 2017-18 and had 13 goals and 13 assists in 20 games, one fewer than the league leaders in each of those categories. In the 2016-17 season, she had six goals and 19 assists in 24 games.

Hanson scored 47 goals and 52 assists for 99 points in 85 career Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League games with the Northern Manitoba-based Wild.

Hanson and the Inferno’s 13 other draft picks will all be invited to participate in the team’s tryouts and training camp Sept. 19-23 in Calgary.

Founded in 2007 after the National Women’s Hockey League dissolved, the CWHL has teams in Calgary, Markham, Toronto, Montreal, Boston and Shenzhen, China.
