Thompson anglers tops at Paint Lake fishing tournament on Labour Day weekend

Local competitors filledthree of the top five spots at the Kickerfish 2018 Northern Manitoba Walleye Championship fishing tournament at Paint Lake Sept. 2, with Wayne Skwarchuk and Russell Boxell of Thompson taking top spot.

The winners netted a total of six fish weighing 15.86 pounds altogether, slightly better than Jason Cross and Valerie Hildebrand of Carman, whose fish weighed 15.53 pounds.

Paint Lake Resort owners Barry and Kathy Ruiter were third with14.83 pounds in total, followed by Marty Dushanek and Kevin Dryznowski of Red Deer, Alberta, who reeled in six walleye weighing 14.49 pounds altogether.

Fifth place went to Troy Nelson and Glen Boxell of Thompson, whose six fish weighed 14.31 pounds in total.
