Senior girls’ volleyball team wins all of its games to capture the Zone 11 championship

The Trojans knocked off the Spartans 25-21, 25-22 to earn their provincials berth after making it to the final by defeating the Mikisew Nikiks from Cross Lake 25-14, 25-15 in the semifinals. 

The RDPC girls dropped only one set in the entire tournament, beating the Nikiks 25-20, 20-11 and the Spartans 25-17, 25-16 in the round robin. They also beat the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre (HBO) Huskies in three sets, taking the opener 25-15 before dropping the second set 19-25 and then capturing the tiebreaker 15-8.

The boys' final also saw the Trojans and Spartans competing for the title, with the Spartans coming back from a first set loss to take two close games over RDPC by scores of 25-23 and 15-13.

RDPC beat HBO in the semifinals to earn their shot at the championship after winning four of six sets in the round robin. The Trojans beat Mikisew 25-20, 25-21 and HBO 25-20, 25-18 while falling 21-25, 23-25 to the Spartans.

RDPC physical education teacher Jeff Paradis said before presenting the Trojan girls with the zone championship banner that it would be the last time the Spartans and Trojans competed for the title due to changes in school classifications taking effect next school year.

RDPC’s junior boys’ volleyball team will also be competing at provincials after beating HBO 25-11, 25-16 in the Zone 11 championship final on Nov. 10 in The Pas. The boys dropped only one set while winning three round robin matches and then knocked off the Nikiks 25-12, 25-16 in the semifinals. 

The junior girls lost 17-25, 25-22, 11-15 to Mikisew in the Zone 11 tournament semifinals after winning two of three round-robin matches.
