R.D. Parker Collegiate is sending three doubles teams to compete in badminton provincials this year after capturing the AAA banner in the Zone 11 championships April 27-28.

David King and Murphy Krentz of RDPC, who finished second in last year’s zones competition, claimed a gold medal in the senior boys’ doubles category this time around.

Trojans Ashley Williams and Kerri Allard fell just short of a first-place finish in the senior girls’ doubles competition, taking their opponents from Grand Rapids to the very limit with a six-set final.

Thanks to another first-place finish from Josh Smud and Samantha Palaniuk in the senior mixed doubles competition, and a bronze medal from Gavin Alcock in senior boys’ singles, RDPC beat out the other AAA schools with a total of 63 points.

Grand Rapids School took home the A/AA banner with 74 points.

All first- and second-place finishers from this tournament will go on to compete in the Manitoba High School Athletic Association’s badminton provincials, which are taking place this upcoming Friday and Saturday in Brandon.
