RDPC’s girls’ soccer team wins consolation final at provincials

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s girls’ soccer team won three of four games at the rural soccer provincials in Swan River Oct. 12-13, capping off the tournament by winning the consolation final as the fifth-best girls’ high school team in Manitoba.

The Trojans beat the Morden Thunder 2-1 in the consolation final thanks to goals from Erica Anderson and Tressa McDonald to improve on last year’s performance, when the squad finished sixth. They qualified for it by beating the host Swan Valley Tigers 2-0 in the B-side semifinals with goals from Anderson and Emma Tomchuk. The team’s only loss was a 4-0 defeat by eventual champions Northlands Parkway in the quarterfinals after RDPC opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over the Niverville Panthers.Keashae Masters had a pair of goals for the Trojans in that game, with Jada Bull, Tomchuk and Emma Deibert tallying singles.

The boys’ team did not record a win at provincials, opening with a 7-1 loss to the W.C. Miller Aces, with Keniel Williams getting the Trojans’ goal. They were knocked out with a 3-1 loss to the Swan Valley Tigers in their first B-side match.
