The midget AA Thompson King Miners improved their season record to 9-1 with a pair of home wins against the Flin Flon Bombers Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

Jonathan Saunders and Conroy Halcrow each had a pair of goals in a 5-2 victory at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena Nov. 30.

Shots in the period were firmly in Thompson’s favour by a margin of 13-3.

Halcrow and Saunders both got their second goals of the contest in the second period. Halcrow’s made it 4-1 for Thompson with just under five minutes remaining before the intermission, with Saunders picking up the puck in the slot and wiring it high past Bombers’ goalie Shayne Price about two minutes later. The King Miners continued to dominate the shot clock in the second frame, outshooting Flin Flon 16-7.

The Bombers got their second goal from Austin McLean with 5:28 remaining in the game and Isaak Weenusk got the win in net, making 14 saves as the King Miners outshot their opponents 38-16.

The Miners jumped out to a first period lead again Dec. 1 when they recorded a 2-1 win. Cody Hale and Curtis Shymanski scored in the opening 20 minutes as Thompson outshot the visitors 10-6.

Aidan Collard got the Bombers on the board six minutes into the second period, firing a shot from the blueline that slipped through a crowd in front and eluded Thompson netminder Landon Hofer. The shot clock tilted in Flin Flon’s direction in the middle frame, as they outshot the King Miners 11-6.

Neither team gave up a goal in the final period on Saturday, though the King Miners directed 13 shots at Flin Flon’s net and the game ended with Thompson outshooting the Bombers 30-22.
