The peewee AA Thompson King Miners took home the championship trophy over the weekend of Nov. 23-25 in The Pas.

The team started the weekend with a 3-1 victory over the host team, The Pas Huskies. Goaltender Lincoln Richcoon backstopped the Miners with a strong performance. Opening the scoring was Cash Long, followed by Daylin Monias and J.J. Oke.

The next morning, the Miners faced off against their old foes the Flin Flon Bombers and were shellshocked early by a young star from Flin Flon by the name of Wyatt Stinton, as he was able to pump four goals by the Miners’ goalies. The Miners battled back with a respectable 8-5 loss but were unable to get the win.  Scoring for the Miners were Oke and Long with two goals each and Monias with one.

The afternoon contest was against the Swan Valley Stampeders, a must-win for the Miners if the team wanted a shot at the championship game. The Miners did not disappoint with a strong game and a solid defensive performance. The final was 4-2 in favor of the Miners. Goal scorers were Long with a pair, and Monias and Marcus Moody with singles.

The Sunday matchup was a day of redemption against the Bombers! After learning some key components about their competition, they turned the tables on the Bombers with solid passing, defensive play and strong goaltending from Eshar Sandhu. The Miners rocked the Bombers 9-2. Goal scorers were Jorden Braun, Oke and Long with two goals each. Singles went to Monias, Bryce Clemons and Moody.

Veteran player J.J. Oke (pictured in front row) played his final game with the Miners in The Pas. J.J. will be joining the Portage Terriers peewee AA team who the Miners will face in early January.
