During a March 14 class at La Voie du Nord, members of the Thompson Karate Club took the time to pose with the medals they won at a recent regional tournament.

Members of the Thompson Karate Club walked away from the Joseph Kryschuk Memorial Friendship Tournament on March 2 with a lot of hardware, scoring a grand total of 24 medals in individual and team competition.

This result completely dwarfed the club’s showing the previous year, where they only picked up eight medals in the kata, kumite and team kata events.

Sensei Peter de Beer said 19 members of their club ended up participating in this year’s tournament in The Pas, which is the biggest group they’ve ever sent to a competition.

As of this month, de Beer also mentioned that the Thompson Karate Club has ballooned to 56 members, which bodes well for the upcoming JKA Canada National Karate Championship that is taking place in The Pas April 27.
