Junior boys’ doubles team captures first place at tournament in Gimli

R.D Parker Collegiate’s junior and senior badminton teams were on the road April 12-13 in their final tournaments before the Zone 11 badminton championships, which will be played in Thompson April 18-19.

Ethan Alcock and Evan Alcock captured first place in the boys’ doubles division at a junior tournament in Gimli while the teams of Emma Tomchuk and Joana Dimaano and Kamryn Horvath and Brady Krentz advanced to the quarterfinals in their divisions.

At a senior tournament at College Louis Riel, Jenna MacLean and Phillina Thorne finished third in girls’ doubles while Gavin Alcock finished third in boys’ singles.

Zone 11 championships begin April 18 at 1:30 p.m. and continue all day Friday.

High school badminton provincials will also be hosted in Thompson May 3-4.
