The third-annual 3-on-3 outdoor basketball tournament, now known as the Multicrete 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge, is moving to a new weekend and location this year, taking place June 19 in conjunction with Nickel Days at the R.D. Parker Collegiate front loop.

The tournament is open to players from eight years old to adults, with eight divisions - 8- to 11-year-old boys, 8- to 11-year-old girls, 12- to 13-year-old boys, 12- to 13-year-old girls, 14- to 15-year-old open, 16- to 17-year-old open, 14-and-up-female and 18-and-up open.

The registration fees are $20 for 8- to 11-year-old teams and $40 per team for all other youth teams, with adult teams paying $60 to register. It is recommended that each team have four players.

Prizes and $200 cash will be awarded in each division.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m. Registration forms are available at the RDPC physical education department or the City of Thompson's recreation office. The deadline to register is June 18.

Teams will have an opportunity to register during the Hoop-It-Up kickoff June 18 in front of RDPC.

"That is the continued initiative to give youth an alternative summer activity by placing basketball hoops throughout the community for the summer," said RDPC's senior girls' basketball coach Sara Gillis, one of the organizers of Hoop-It-Up and the basketball tournament. "We will be giving free new and used basketballs away to kids that don't have one. Donations of basketballs are welcome."

Proceeds from the tournament go towards RDPC Trojans basketball.
