Graduating R.D. Parker Collegiate athlete Hannah Murdy will be joining the Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers women’s basketball team for the 2018-19 Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season, the school announced June 22.

Murdy stands 5’7” and was named to the first All-Manitoba team and also a provincial tournament all-star in her final season with the RDPC Trojans, which saw them win their third provincial championship in four seasons, all of which Murdy spent on the school’s senior squad.

"We are very excited to add Hannah to our program," said CMU head coach Joe Di Curzio in the announcement on the school’s website. "Hannah possesses a great skill set, a very high basketball IQ and a terrific work ethic that tends to rub off on her teammates. We know she is a high-character person who is an excellent fit for our program."

Murdy also competed in the high school track provincials in the pentathlon (100 metres, 800 metres, shot put, long jump and high jump), and was a member of the badminton, volleyball and soccer teams. She also coaches Grade 3-4 basketball players in the girls Junior Bison (JRB) club program in Thompson.

The Blazers begin the 2018-19 preseason Sept. 27 when they host the St. Mary’s Lightning at the Loewen Athletic Centre.

Founded in 2000 and located in Winnipeg , CMU offers three- and four-year bachelor’s degrees and graduate programs and had an enrolment of about 900 students in the 2017-18 academic year.
