Fourteen of this year’s Northstars players are new to the team

The Norman Northstars will have a mostly new roster for the upcoming Manitoba AAA Under-18 Hockey League season, with only 10 players who appeared in games for the team last season returning.

The Norman Northstars will have a mostly new roster for the upcoming Manitoba AAA Under-18 Hockey League season, with only 10 players who appeared in games for the team last season returning.

The team announced its 2020-21 season roster following tryouts held Aug. 28-30 in Thompson.

Five forwards are back for another year, including Ian Snooks, who was ninth on the team in scoring last year with 17 points in 47 games, alongside Brady Krentz, Conroy Halcrow, Clark Scaddan and Morgan Daneliuk, who appeared in seven games for the Northstars last season. 

On the blue line, Cheechoo Lathlin, who had 20 points in 47 games, is back for another season alongside Allan Matechuk and Lavery Melsted.

Both goaltenders played for the team last year. Linden Gamblin played more than 1,000 minutes in total, finishing with a record of zero wins and 18 losses, while Odin Church had one win and 11 losses in nearly 800 minutes of playing time.

New roster members for the 2020-21 season include Connor Slugoski of Creighton on defence, along with Nathan Halcrow of Cross Lake, Nicholas Hutchings of Norway House and Drake Perch and Carter Bassett of Thompson.

New forwards include Kyle Arthurson of Norway House, Pierce Beardy of York Landing, Corwin Saunders of Split Lake, Ashton Paul of The Pas, Logan Primrose and Nick Stewart from Thompson as well as Nolan Rideout, Magnus Pearson and Evan Reid, all from Flin Flon.
