Figure skaters top the charts in ice show

Skate Thompson figure skaters had the C.A. Nesbitt Arena rocking and rolling on March 22 as they concluded the figure skating season with their 2014 spring ice show "Topping the Charts."

Skaters took to the ice in period costumes to perform to songs from the 1950s up to the present day.

Madison Thistle, Jemiha Hart, Taylor Chartrand, Rianna van Tonder, Emily Penny, Alyssa Cordell, Hailey Fudge, Ava Gribbin, Katharine Gallagher, Megan Szabo, Kassia Wolanski-McGirr, Ramona Pelland, Anna Krokosz-Boychuk, Sarah Bonner-Proulx, Megan Wischnewski, Amy Shier, Madyson Caldwell, Jordan Clinton and Amber-Lee Fountain kicked off the 1950s to "Rock Around the Clock," followed by Julia Huber, Sara Phillips, William Hart, Ava Lapointe, Jessica Smud, Ambery Hayduk, Jordyn Lowe, Gerrit van Tonder, Ava White, Arianna Vokey, Jordan Johnson, Kaitlyn Krentz, Sydney Power, Bridgette Caddy, Jenna Shier, Eleanor Gribbin, Zena Yacourt, Ava Lynn Ostrander, Taylor Lagimodiere, Avery Lagimodiere, Dezirae Bercier, Peyton Robinson and Hasini Kumbharathi grooving to "Jailhouse Rock" and Anna Krokosz-Boychuk, Megan Szabo and Amy Shier strutting to "At the Hop" and "All I Do Is Dream."

The 1960s brought Elizabeth Phillips, Mackenzie Pollastrone, Kayla Vokey, Elizabeth Pankratz, Ava Rose, Regan Dunn, Jandeen Ashton and Danny-Lynne Smith hanging ten to "Surfin' USA" with fab four Rianna van Tonder, Hailey Fudge, Amber-Lee Fountain and Ava Gribbin performing to a medley of Beatles tunes. The decade concluded with Madyson Caldwell performing solo to "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" and Mex Nerbas, Samuel Zawadsky, Jaxon Power, Marissa Caddy, Anika Pilling, Kameryn Bradbury, Matthew Bourgon and Jack Lychuk shining in "Here Comes the Sun."

The 1970s cut across genres with Ramona Pelland skating to "Sweet Caroline", while Vida McKay, Macaydan McKay, Andrea Villar-Miranda, Ashley DeAmicis, Emily Pollastrone, Alanna Saskowski and Kaylen Tripp showed their moves to a disco mix before William Hart, Gerrit van Tonder, Brady Chartrand, Matthew Ellis, Drayden Uhrina, Malaki Spence-Natawayous, Braxen Huhtala, Levi White, Pierce Brown, Olivier Berube and Parker Lalonde rocked out to "Sharp-Dressed Man."

For the 1980s, "Walk Like an Egyptian" featured Madison Thistle, Jemiha Hart, Taylor Chartrand, Rianna van Tonder, Emily Penny, Alyssa Cordell, Hailey Fudge, Ava Gribbin, Katharine Gallagher and Amber-Lee Fountain, while Megan Wischnewski and Kassia Wolanski-McGirr busted out to "Footloose." Sara Phillips, Ava Lapointe, Ava White, Kaitlyn Krentz, Jenna Shier, Sydney Power, Jordan Johnson, Bridgette Caddy, Eleanor Gribbin, Jordyn Lowe, Hasini Kumbharathi and Ambery Hayduk demonstrated the "Girls Just Wann Have Fun" while Taylor Chartrand performed a solo routine to "Beat It."

The 1990s started with Jordan Clinton, Sarah Bonner-Proulx, Robyn Millar, Jamey Johnson, Ramona Pelland, Megan Wischnewski, Anna Krokosz-Boychuk, Madison Thistle, Madyson Caldwell, Hailey Fudge, Ava Gribbin, Emily Penny, Megan Szabo, Katharine Gallagher, Rianna van Tonder and Heather Reed in "Vogue," followed by Jemiha Hart and William Hart in "Good Vibrations" and finishing with Katharine Gallagher, Alyssa Cordell, Madison Thistle and Emily Penny in "Rock My World."

The 21st century included Megan Szabo, Kassia Wolanski-McGirr, Ramona Pelland, Anna Krokosz-Boychuk, Sarah Bonner-Proulx, Megan Wischnewski, Amy Shier and Madyson Caldwell in "Royals," as well as Avery Lagimodiere, Taylor Lagimodiere, Ava Lynn Ostrander, Zena Yacout, William Hart, Gerrit van Tonder, Arianna Vokey, Jessica Smud, Julia Huber, Dezirae Bercier and Peyton Robinson in "Can't Hold Us" and "Moves Like Jagger," all capped off by Madison Thistle, Jemiha Hart, Taylor Chartrand, Rianna van Tonder, Emily Penny, Alyssa Cordell, Hailey Fudge, Ava Gribbin, Katharine Gallagher, Megan Szabo, Kassia Wolanski-McGirr, Ramona Pelland, Anna Krokosz-Boychuk, Sarah Bonner-Proulx, Megan Wischnewski, Amy Shier, Madyson Caldwell, Jordan Clinton and Amber-Lee Fountain getting down to "Party Rock Anthem."

The ice show also featured a pair of performances by Sean Rice and Jodeyne Higgins, two-time Canadian world team members and Skate Canada and international pairs bronze medalists, who won four bronze medals in national pairs competitions and have performed in 32 countries and television shows including CBC's Battle of the Blades and Dancing on Ice in the United Kingdom.
