Field lacrosse team loses consolation final after first two wins of the year

R.D.

R.D. Parker Collegiate’s field lacrosse team lost an overtime heartbreaker in the consolation final of the Manitoba High School Field Lacrosse League championships in Winnipeg over the weekend, falling 6-5 to Teulon after a last-minute goal by Avery Ritchie earned the Trojans a trip to extra time.

Ritchie finished with two goals in the game while Murphy Krentz had a hat trick.

RDPC earned a spot in the consolation final with a 5-4 win over Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey the previous day after having lost 9-4 to Centre scolaire Léo-Rémillard from Winnipeg.

The Trojans opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over Transcona, getting two goals each from Ritchie and Krentz and singles from Declan Steeves and Sam Millar.

Jamie Valentino was named an MHSFLL all-star, while the previous week saw Braden Melsted selected as one of the league’s players of the week.

All but one of the members of the team will be eligible to compete again next year as goaltender Carson Richards is the only Grade 12 student on the roster.
