R.D. Parker Collegiate athletes captured nine berths in the junior and senior badminton high school provincials as hosts of the Zone 11 championships April 18-19.

Senior boys’ doubles team Murphy Krentz and Hunter Rambow went undefeated to secure first place in their division, defeating schoolmates Alin Patel and Shiv Vyas in the final, while the senior girls’ team of Phillina Thorne and Jenna MacLean were also unbeaten on their road to a first-place finish. Gavin Alcock finished second in the senior boys’ singles and Erica Anderson did the same in the senior girls singles. All eight will compete in the senior badminton provincials, also being held in Thompson, May 3-4.

Ethan Alcock and Evan Alcock finished first in the junior boys’ doubles competition while Kamryn Horvath and Bady Krentz were second in the junior mixed doubles and Emma Tomchuk and Amber Miscavish were second in the junior girls doubles. Junior badminton is recognized as an official sport by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association for the first time this year, which means these seven athletes will compete at junior badminton provincials in Winkler on the first weekend of May.

RDPC also captured both the junior and senior Zone 11 banners based upon the combined points of all their players competing at the zone championships.
