The midget AA Thompson King Miners lost their second game of the season to the same team who beat them the first time as they split a road series with the Flin Flon Bombers at the Whitney Forum Jan. 26-27.

Damon Constant had a hat trick to pace the Bombers Jan. 27, with Sean Yaworski adding a single tally in a 4-2 Bombers win. Murphy Krentz had both goals for the King Miners, who directed 41 shots at Flin Flon goalie Shayne Price, who turned aside 39 of them. Landon Hofer made 22 saves in net for Thompson.

The King Miners’ loss came in the same arena where they lost their first game this season a couple of months ago.

Thompson beat the Bombers, but not by much, in the first game of the series, prevailing 5-4. Krentz had two goals in that game as well, as did Curtis Shymanski, with Jonathan Saunders adding a single. Cree Nicolas scored twice for Flin Flon, with Blake Alexander and Chayce Busby recording the other Bombers’ goals.

King Miners goaltender Isaak Weenusk made 18 saves as Thompson outshot the Bombers 37-22.

Heading into their last two games of the regular season against the Norway House North Stars and Cross Lake Islanders Feb. 2-3, the King Miners are guaranteed to finish first in the standings with a 20-2 record, 11 points ahead of the second-place Bombers, who also have two regular season games left this weekend against the same two teams.
