The following is from an RCMP press release:

Thursday evening, police responded to a complaint of an erratic driver on Highway 4 south of Battleford.

The driver of the vehicle was wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant.

According to RCMP, they attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.

A pursuit took place on grid roads and continued onto Highway 4 north toward Battleford. RCMP say the suspect shot at an RCMP officer. The officer returned fire.

Other people were in the vehicle with the suspect. RCMP say the vehicle fled again and stopped the vehicle a second time. Occupants fled the vehicle with the suspect who had the firearm.

RCMP set up a containment area bordering the south side of Battle River. Battlefords RCMP requested assistance to search for the suspect, including from Saskatoon Police Service Air 1.

The vehicle and occupants managed to get a ride from a member of the public. RCMP say this resulted in further search and a traffic stop on Highway 29 south of Battleford.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured.

The increased police presence in the area, police say, is due to officers continuing the investigation, including them collecting evidence.

No further details are available at this time, police say.
