Happy New Year no matter how you plan to ring it in

It is traditional, as we noted in this space two years ago, for newspapers to editorialize at the end of the year about the major events that have unfolded over the previous 12 months.

I'm writing this in October. The first significant snowfall is still in its frozen glory on the ground and I'm trying to think about Christmas. No baking has been done (or purchased). No cards have been written.
