Thompson donors warmed hearts with generosity

Dear Editor:

February is one of the coldest months in Manitoba, which is why I want to thank all those in Thompson who opened their doors and warmed our hearts with a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba through the 2009 door-to-door campaign. During Heart Month in February, Thompson area volunteers braved the winter weather and raised an amazing $19, 587.29 for vital heart disease and stroke research, health promotion and advocacy.

Ninety per cent of donor dollars stay in the province, so the money raised in Thompson will make a difference in the lives of thousands of Manitobans. Since its inception, the foundation has cut the number of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease by 50 per cent. However, heart disease and stroke continues to be the leading cause of death in this province, so there is still much work to be done. With a united effort, we will continue to strive towards a heart-healthy future for Manitobans.

On behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, thanks again for your generosity and commitment to such a great cause.
