The School Zone

Let's get busy! Parker rocks

Welcome back to The School Zone. During the past two weeks a lot has happened. The Youth Aboriginal Council held their elections and the president is now Delvina Sinclair. Congratulations! Good luck, and work hard. The Youth Aboriginal Council holds a lot of the events during the school year, including the Guitar Hero competitions during the lunch hour we all loved so much last year. We are definitely looking forward to more fun and interesting events this year.

The Drama Students Association is holding a fashion show on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door as well as refreshments. They will be selling tickets at one ticket for $3 and two tickets for $5. The models will be students of all shapes and sizes, volunteering their time, to help with this fundraiser. It will be held in the Parker Gym. They are working really hard to get it all set up, and have a lot of plans. This will be an amazing event, as Dominick Ropson said he wants it high fashion, think vogue.

The Power Of Youth, R.D. Parker's version of a student council, is back in session. They will be planning our Halloween assembly as per usual and most likely the rest of the school year's holiday assembly; personally I can't wait for the Christmas Assembly. Hopefully it will be just as wild and fun as last years. Work hard guys, and don't be afraid to let loose a little.

"Speaking" of Halloween, a group of Cosmetology students are holding a haunted house this year on Oct. 30. They are charging around $3 for entry, and so far it sounds like it will definitely be worth it. The haunted house will take place in the old change rooms beneath the Parker Gym, and those things are creepy! The group of girls including Amanda Walby, Jana Rose Erikson, Rachael Dube, Kelsie Laframboise and Kaitlyn Carlson are doing this as a fundraiser for their trip to Paris. These girls are ready to scare, so come prepared. There will be other fundraiser's held by our group of Cosmo girls through out the rest of the school year, including a 50/50 draw.

Band and choir are holding a Halloween concert on Oct. 28. Beautiful singing and awesome instrument playing are sure to be heard by everyone's favourite high school band and choir. So come see our hard working students dressed in costumes and having fun doing what they do best. The all-new band staff is pushing them hard along with our choir teacher David Wolfe.

Picture retakes are scheduled for Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is the last chance for all students who missed pictures the first time, so don't miss out.

As the season gets colder, colds and flu become the norm; so wash your hands often, drink lots of fluids, and get lots of sleep. No one wants the pile of homework that comes with missing school.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, I hope you enjoyed it however you spent it.
