Sharing students’ love of reading with Winnipeg Jets players a wonderful experience

At the beginning of February, I entered the Winnipeg Jets "Reading Takes Flight" Contest.

The contest consists of classes being chosen to have one or two Winnipeg Jets players connect with them and read them a book, and then have a short question-and-answer period.  Our Grade 3 class at Burntwood School was chosen as one of the winning classes.

On March 3, via Zoom, Conner Hellebuyck and Brendan Dillon joined our classroom to read Whiteout: A Winnipeg Jets Story. Students were able to follow along in their own personal copies of the book, sent by the Jets. Students then asked some questions to the players such as, “What is it like to be in the NHL?” and, “What is your favourite part of hockey?”

It was a wonderful experience chatting with and sharing a love of reading with the Winnipeg Jets.

Jenna Konschuk is a Grade 3 Teacher at Burntwood Elementary in her second year of teaching with the School District of Mystery Lake.
