Happy New Year no matter how you plan to ring it in

I wish I could write this column and say that only good things happened in 2009. Life is not like that though. We have to take the good and the bad. We have had to say goodbye when we didn't want to. We also have been overjoyed with new births and other great joys in our lives. This has been a year of change for many in business and in our personal lives. One thing is for sure to me; the years seem to go by faster as I get older. I'm trying to remember how many New Year's resolutions I have made over the years. Most years I haven't been able to keep my resolutions but I'm proud to say in 2009 I was able to keep both, which were to lose weight and do more good deeds. On Christmas Eve, our staff was discussing what their resolutions would be. Not everyone in the office plans on making a resolution but there is no doubt that everyone is looking forward to good things. I myself plan on continuing the same goal as I had last year and hopefully will have more success. The Thompson Citizen will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in the upcoming year and in all those years, 2009 was the first year the Thompson Citizen was ever free to our readers and also another first for both of our papers, the Thompson Citizen and Nickel Belt News went online at www.thompsoncitizen.net. 2010 will bring more good things in our 50th anniversary year. Some of us will be home ringing in the new year with loved ones, others will be out celebrating at New Year's Eve bashes, and some will be home alone watching the clock turn from 11:59 p.m. to 12 a.m., and into another year. Whether you're in a room full of people with balloons and streamers falling on your head and confetti flying through the air, sharing hugs and well wishes with family or friends, or on your own watching the clock strike 12, as I reflect on all the events of 2009 the good times we've shared, I hope that all your dreams come true in 2010.
