Grant Kreuger: Bye, bye moustache.

October is a busy month with many activities taking place around town and with falling snow it's a sure sign that summer is a season of the past. Plans for the big Halloween party are being made and costumes are being ordered or planned. AGM's have taken place for various boards around town.

Here at the Thompson Citizen we've been gearing up for the rush of the Christmas shopping season. But before we get to that we once again take time to fundraise for a cure for breast cancer. This year we've got xxxxx kind-hearted businesses taking part in collecting money for Cancer Care Manitoba and even more importantly, to raise awareness of breast cancer.

It seems thinking pink is on the minds of many this October during breast cancer awareness month. I don't know if it's more than other years or just that I'm noticing it more, but even when choosing toilet paper, there's a choice of buying one that supports the breast cancer campaign. We mostly think of women when we think of breast cancer but men are at risk as well and we'll have more information about that in our Oct. 21, 23, 28 and 30 issues of the Thompson Citizen and Nickel Belt News.

Someone who really impressed me recently me was Grant Kreuger who sat with us at the Thompson Community Foundation gala. He wore a pink ribbon in his tie. Grant also sports a handlebar moustache. I took this opportunity to try and fundraise further.

The conversation went something like this: "Grant, do you know how much money we could raise if you let me shave off that moustache for cancer," to which he replies, "it's already being done?" I suggested it be done on the Relay For Life stage in April and I've decided to tell all of you to make sure he actually goes through with it. We all know that Grant is very attached to his "stach." Good for you Grant for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing a pink ribbon in your tie and good to know you have plans to raise money for a good cause. If you know someone that has been lost to breast cancer and would like to put their name in memory or know of a courageous survivor and would like to honour them, we have a special fundraiser for that as well in the paper where we will donate $10 to Cancer Care Manitoba for every ad sold.
