To the Editor:

The Progressive Conservative Caucus is very disappointed to learn that Greyhound Canada has signalled its intention to end passenger services in Manitoba in the near future.

The decision will have a negative impact on people who rely on this affordable passenger service.

Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Ron Lemieux needs to explain why - when he was notified by Greyhound Canada on Aug.14 that they had concerns about the operating climate in Manitoba - he did not act swiftly to address these matters.

We are asking the NDP government to work with Greyhound Canada to find both short and long-term solutions that will allow them to continue to operate in Manitoba.

The NDP must also immediately address the significant regulatory challenges they have placed on Greyhound Canada that have resulted in the company's decision to pull out of Manitoba.

In order for companies like Greyhound Canada to succeed in Manitoba, we need a favourable business climate - one with less red tape and a more competitive tax regime.

If the NDP continues their anti-business approach, we will lose more jobs and businesses. Swift action is needed to resolve this matter so Manitobans don't lose access to this important transportation option.
