Over the past few weeks I was honoured to be able to run for the leadership of the NDP and premier of Manitoba.
When I started the campaign I knew that it would be a challenge. After all there has never been a premier from Northern Manitoba in the 97 years that we have been part of the province. Throughout the campaign I found that many people were more than prepared to support a Northern candidate.
I put forward a clear vision and ideas that I felt were important to the future of this province.
In the end it was not to be. Do I have any regrets? Not at all. I was able to take a stand for what I believe in.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that was so encouraging and supportive. A special thanks goes to everyone in Northern Manitoba that was so supportive. It meant a lot to me.
What is next? I am still MLA for Thompson and already focusing on continuing to fight for Northern Manitoba.
And there is one more thing. We may have to wait a bit longer for a premier from Northern Manitoba but not another 97 years. It will happen sooner rather than later.
