Reader questions Vale's hiring and recruitment practices

Thompson NDP MLA Steve Ashton has repeatedly stated he is fighting to save value-added jobs here in Thompson. The question is whom are these jobs being saved for?

Certainly not qualified or experienced people. The high turn over rate and the rehiring of people who were fired for cause is proving Vale is making some poor choices. Those who are getting passed over in favour of less experienced people keep hitting roadblocks when trying to get answers about why they didn't get the job. There are many rumours going around about how some people are getting the jobs, and Vale's to refusal answer questions only serves to suggest the rumours are true.

As it stands, some of these rumours state that only people with connections to members of the management team are getting the jobs, even though they are not qualified nor have any type of industrial experience.

With their image already tarnished by the decision to close the refinery, Vale can ill afford to ignore the issue of its ineffectual recruitment and hiring process.

The number of people quitting or getting fired from Vale is evidence their current process does not work.

Either that, or the people in charge of deciding who gets the job and who doesn't are not the ones who should be making those decisions.
