To the Editor:
I'm sure by now quite a few people are aware of the fact that there were more than several stabbings that took place the weekend of June 22-24. A lot of them took place near the Nickel Days festivities and the Eastwood area.
How many murders and/or stabbings have taken place in the Eastwood area just this past year in general? Way too many to even think about! I know that the police are trying their best to keep things under control - which is obviously an extremely stressful and dirty job - but June 23 didn't seem to be the case. A friend of mine was in the Westwood area and got pulled over by a police officer for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Not only were they hanging out at a corner in Westwood to try and nail people for simple tickets, but they were in an area where there is usually very little crime! Would it not be wiser to sit at a corner in Eastwood then ding people for tickets and perhaps catch one of these stabbings that were happening?
There is no possible way for the police to be everywhere at all times and catch every horrible thing that's happening, but I don't think being in one of the better areas of town is going to help with all of this crime going on. I'm not trying to insult the RCMP in any way because they have an extremely degrading and selfless job and I appreciate that, but it is hard to take them seriously sometimes when things like this happen.
