It's time for the military draft again and nightly curfew

To the Editor:

Crime in the city of Thompson is rampant. Our young people are losing their lives. It is not safe to walk the streets at night or even in the middle of day for that matter.

Our society has lost the meaning of core values; they have no respect for human life. Where will it end?

The police can do more. They can get more involved in the community, be more visible in the downtown core.

Yes, we have heard all that before, with little or no results to curb crime in our city. Therefore we need to refocus and look at the issue of crime from another angle that being the draft.

We need to canvas our Members of Parliament and have a law where our teens are required to attend school and complete their education. If they fail to do so, then make it compulsory for them to join the Canadian military until they reach the age of 21.

Being in the military will allow them to develop their skills, have some self-esteem, self-discipline and self-respect along with respect for their parents and the community they live in.

Until crime is brought under control the City of Thompson must enact a bylaw where all teens must be in the care of their parents/guardians after 9 p.m. each and every night. If they are found on the streets then the police must be given the power to arrest and charge the parents for failure to follow the city bylaw.
