Helpful student deserves a high five

To the Editor: I just have to share this. I cannot keep it to myself. I am so very proud of Brandon Dumas (a student from South Indian Lake attending R.D. Parker Collegiate). He just ended my evening on a very, very happy note.

I just have to share this. I cannot keep it to myself. I am so very proud of Brandon Dumas (a student from South Indian Lake attending R.D. Parker Collegiate). He just ended my evening on a very, very happy note.

He came out with us on the student evening activities last Wednesday. After we were done, I offered him a ride home. On our way dropping off students we saw this elder in distress. The elder had a walker. We drove up to her and asked her if she needed help. She said yes and Brandon jumped out of the vehicle to help the elder while I went and turned the vehicle around. As I approached the two and got out of the vehicle, I noticed the elder's feet were stuck in the mud. Brandon came to the rescue and helped her. He pulled her shoe out of the mud and tried to put it on her foot. Her shoes were so stuck. After we got her out of the mud, we escorted her to the vehicle and loaded her into it. When we got her to her house, she gave me the key to unlock her door while this young man escorted her safely to her door. We helped her into her home.

I want to give this young man a big shout out. If you see him, give him a high five for the awesome job he did the night of April 19. If we didn't spot her, who knows what the outcome would have been. Way to go bud, the spirit of kindness from the youth makes my day.
