We ask all those running for mayor and council to publicly provide answers through the media or on your information material to three important questions below. The topics will cover a lot of ground and will show how each can provide clear, objective, visionary and respectful leadership over the next four years. We feel the answers to these questions will help us determine the intent and capability of each candidate.
1. As large employers in Thompson are downsizing, and the small business sector has been shrinking, what are your ideas to help Thompson’s economy diversify and grow?
2. As city revenues will be diminishing with a smaller grant-in-lieu from Vale, what are your ideas for cost-saving measures for the City of Thompson operations and/or new revenues to keep our taxes reasonable and competitive?
3. What are your ideas to make city council and city management more accountable to the taxpayer in order to better serve and engage residents?
