Letter: Thanks in order for the Thompson RCMP detachment

Officers and pilot used hard work and inventiveness to complete remote rescue, say grateful canoeists

To the Editor:

On Friday Aug. 20 our canoe trip to York Factory went rather badly for my spouse and me. We lost our canoe in the final set of rapids on the Hayes River and found ourselves stranded, wet and exhausted. The weather was miserable and we knew that our location and the lack of visibility would mean a rescue would be quite a challenge as it would be impossible to land a plane in the midst of the rapids.

Enter Sgt. Glenn Stuckless and Const. Scott Millar, our saviours. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to these officers and their pilot Jesse Rooks from Wings Over Kississing for their inventive rescue plan even though it provided to be rather strenuous. (They earned their pay that day!) The officers were professional, friendly and caring without being judgmental throughout the entire procedure. We want them to know how much we appreciate their efforts struggling up and down the steep hills (thanks for bringing rope), the bogs and the bush to get us out.
