Recently sworn-in Thompson MLA Eric Redhead speaks during the opening ceremonies for Thompson’s Canada Day events on July 1.

To the Editor:

When I heard a defeated Progressive Conservative candidate in our constituency commit to working for our city, in spite of her own loss, I can only state that it is gracious and polite to hear these words from a losing contender.

After he defeated our NDP candidate six years or so ago, I was convinced our MLA Kelly Bindle, himself a member of the Pallister regime, was under a gag order. No offence to Mr. Bindle, but a statement of the autocracy then-premier Pallister attempted to create at that time.

Our struggling city, denied access to the Mining Community Reserve Fund (under false pretences), managed to weather the storm and on June 7 Mr. Eric Redhead won the Thompson byelection by a whopping 70 per cent to 30 per cent.

All the best to Mr. Redhead and the numbers suggest the unquestionable backing of your constituents.

Angus Campbell Sr.

Thompson
