Budget 2019 puts richest corporations ahead of people
Niki Ashton new

The budget of 2019 was the last chance for this government to put Canadians first. Instead, Canadians received a budget that maintains business as usual and continues massive giveaways to big corporations while people are struggling to make ends meet. Priorities of Northern Manitobans like jobs, housing and health were not met in this budget.

The budget shows no sense of urgency to act on the lack of housing on First Nations or affordable housing across the country, the need for childcare, expensive prescription drug costs and senior poverty rates.

While more and more Canadians are struggling, the wealthiest corporations have had it too good for too long. Northerners and Canadians deserve a government that puts them first by creating good jobs, implementing a single-payer universal public pharmacare, improving healthcare for everyone and making sure that post-secondary education is not a debt sentence.

First Nations deserve more than a government that refuses to tackle the housing crisis on-reserve, the lack of adequate water and sewer services or the continued underfunding of critical services.

People across our country deserve better. As Member of Parliament for Northern Manitoba I will continue to fight for the priorities of our region.
