It’s graduation season.
Across our region schools and post-secondary institutions are holding graduations.
Graduations mark a tremendous achievement. By the graduates themselves, their families and friends who have been supportive and institutions themselves.
Whether it is a kindergarten graduation, elementary school, junior high or high school graduation. Whether it’s graduation from a post-secondary program there is one common element. As I have attended graduations throughout our region it is one of hope.
At a time when we are facing many challenges from the economy through to climate change, graduates bring a new sense of hope and optimism.
I also believe that our new graduates bring unique perspectives. They have grown up at a unique time in our history.
Our graduates are rooted in our north but can connect with the world in ways that previous generations could not.
The major challenge for all of us is to ensure that this generation of graduates does not end up worse off than previous generations. Unfortunately this has been the trend in recent years in terms of growing inequality and the environment.
But I believe there is hope. As I have attended graduations throughout the region I have been struck by the inspiring outlook of so many graduates.
As MP for our region I would like to extend congratulations to all the graduates of the class of 2019. All the best in the future.
