MP Report – Aug. 3, 2018

Speaking our for our region
Niki Ashton new

Over the past few weeks I have visited extensively throughout our region.

As Member of Parliament for our region I have made keeping in touch my top priority. By visiting I am able to talk to people directly about their concerns.
It has been a busy time between Nickel Days and the King Miner contest in Thompson, Canada Day in Flin Flon, Family Camp in Cross Lake, grads in The Pas and Wabowden, visits to Churchill, Sagkeeng, Hollow Water, Manigotagan, Seymourville and Little Black River and the Island Lake communities of Red Sucker Lake, St. Theresa Point and Wasagamack.

In visiting I have heard concerns about economic uncertainty in communities such as Thompson and Flin Flon, the crisis in Churchill from the shutdown of the port and rail line, the housing crisis in communities throughout our region, and specific concerns in terms of health and education in many communities. I have heard about the ongoing concern about the need for even the most basic transportation infrastructure.

If there is one common message, it is that many people feel our region is being ignored.

Regions like ours produce much of the wealth of this country. When you talk to people across the region there’s a real sense of frustration about the degree to which we are often ignored by the federal government when it comes to our legitimate needs.

Over the next weeks and months I will be continuing to visit getting feedback from people is key to keeping in touch.

I will also be following up on many of these concerns.

Our region deserves to be heard. Our region deserves better.
