Addiction clinic coming to Thompson will provide northerners with better health care
new email for bindle

To vastly improve access for Manitobans to substance-related addictions treatment, our government is establishing five front-line RAAM clinics across the province.  Rapid Access to Addictions Medication (RAAM) clinics will provide more immediate treatment for individuals seeking help for any and all substance addictions, including patients struggling with methamphetamine, opioids and alcohol.

Modelled on successful programs in other provinces and funded through Manitoba Health, Seniors & Active Living, RAAM clinics will combine treatment with health-care services to help patients move easily between addictions, medical specialists, primary-care providers, and other support. Assessments, counselling and prescriptions of medication will be provided as patients are connected to treatment and physicians. The RAAM clinical team will also support other health-care professionals with mentoring, re-assessments, and referrals.

Manitoba’s RAAM clinics will be housed at existing clinic facilities – two in Winnipeg, others in Brandon and the Interlake, and one in Thompson – and give individuals with addictions to substances the assistance and care they need much sooner, closer to home, and with continued support.

Clinics of this kind were strongly endorsed during our government’s public consultations for development of our Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, and will build on other addictions services in Manitoba, including the Provincial Naloxone Distribution Program.  This is another step in our government’s ongoing commitment to provide northerners with better health care, sooner.
