Can someone explain what is going on with our highways?

To the Editor: We spend hundreds of millions of dollars to build highways in Northern Manitoba, millions more to dig ditches and drainage ditches to get rid of water - water that destroys roads.

Then nothing is done while beavers move in and explode in population and dam everything in sight. After several years highways moves in with big equipment and considerable expense to remove the dams. Again nothing is done for a couple of years and the process repeats its self.

Highways will probably say they do not have money in the budget to control the beavers.

Why wouldn't we protect an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars? Any business or company would.

If we can't control the beavers then why build ditches at all and give the beavers a place to dam?

A conservation officer once said he approached highways saying he knew many retired trappers who would take care of the problem and highways was not at all interested.

Manitobans should not accept such poor management of their tax dollars invested in our highways.
