ROBERT (BOB) OBLEMAN
November 13, 1947 – February 2, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce that after an intense battle with illness, on February 2nd, 2017, Robert (Bob) Glen Jonathon Obleman passed away at the Thompson General Hospital in Thompson, MB at the age of 69. Robert was born in Indian Head, SK on the 13th of November, 1947, and spent his adolescence growing up on a farm with his grandparents in Regina, SK; eventually, he moved in with his foster parents John and Annie Wihlidal in Southey, SK. Robert moved to Thompson, MB in 1968 and held a number of jobs throughout his life, including at INCO; Thompson Inn; Burntwood Hotel; Trappers; Driftwood Taxi; Limestone Bar in Sundance, MB; Wal-Mart; and OMNI Facility Services.
Bob was a gentle soul, and had a special connection with animals; during the summer, he bird-watched out on the deck. Bob also took great pride in maintaining the gardens and lawn at home. In his earlier days, Bob enjoyed participating in community-organized games including hockey, football, baseball, and bowling. He also enjoyed watching live sports, and especially cheered on the Norway House Goldhawks team. He made a habit of going for coffee at Robin’s Donuts daily and liked to chat with anyone around.
Bob is survived by his wife Fran Budd, daughter Ashley, son Conway, brothers Fred, Wayne, Dale, and Jeremy Obleman, along with numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Frances Cooper and father Miles Obleman.
Robert will be cremated and memorial services will follow at the Roman Catholic church in Norway House on Thursday, February 9th, 2017 at 5pm. Thompson memorial services will be determined at a later date.
