After bravely dealing with declining health over the past 18 months, Nick passed away peacefully on September 7, 2018 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Surrounded by his loving family. Nick was in a battle with his diabetes and heart complications, for many months in the Thompson General Hospital.
Nick was born in Thicket Portage on February 6th, 1947 and spent most of his life in Thompson, Manitoba. Nick started work at an early age (teen) in Quebec and Ontario for Geosearch Consultants Ltd. From Toronto, Ontario. Nick moved to Thompson and started work with the City of Thompson on April 21, 1971 including Public Work Dept. and Water and Sewer, until his retirement from the city on February 6, 2012.
Nick will be sadly missed by his daughters, Bernice (John), Theresa Bittern, Leona (Irvin) Muskego, Beverly (Lawrence) McLeod, and son Richard (Florence) Pronteau. Brothers: Albert (Annie) Bittern, Leo Harry Bittern. Sisters: Edith (Joe) Pronteau, Harriet (Emile) Chaboyer. Mother-in-law Edna Dorion, Sisters in law: Melinda (Jack) Ducharme, Mildred Dorion, Brother-in-law Ronald Dorion, Uncles: Albert Dorion and Reggie Dorion. Plus numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will all remember him with love.
Nick was predeceased by his Father William Thomas Bittern, Mother Mary Dorion, Wife Marie Bittern, Sisters: Jessie (Henry) Cook, Leona (Harry) Pronteau, Rosalie (Robert) Pronteau, Brothers: Baptiste, John, Joseph, Sister-in-law: Sarah Bittern, brothers-in-law Joe Pronteau, Harry Pronteau, Robert Pronteau, Henry Cook, Emile Chaboyer. Grandparents: Baptiste and Veronica Dorion, Uncles: Jonas Dorion and Solomon Dorion.
Nick’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Northern Spirit Manor PCH of Thompson, for the helpful and compassionate staff to make their stay enjoyable and comfortable for Nick “The King” and Marie Bittern until their passing.
Wake Service was held on Thursday, September 13th at 7:00pm at the St. Lawrence Hall in Thompson, Celebration of Nick’s life held on Friday, September 14th 2018 at 1:00pm at the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Thompson with Father Guna officiating. Interment followed in the Thompson Cemetery.
