Abilio (Bill) Cruz
September 20, 1955 – May 20, 2018
On May 20th, Abilio (Bill) Sousa Cruz peacefully passed away with his loving wife by his side. Bill was born on September 20th, 1955 in Britelo, Portugal. He lived in Portugal until 1974 when he moved to France. On Victoria Day, 1976 Bill moved to Thompson, Manitoba, Canada. In June 1981, Bill married the love of his life Delfina Oliveira. They started their family and built a life for themselves in Thompson.
Bill worked for Bianchini Construction for 33 years before moving to Public Works for the City of Thompson where he made so many lifelong friendships. He always looked forward to the summer when he would get to spend his days working with his “cement crew”.
Bill’s life revolved around his family. His favorite times were when they could all be together around the table sharing a meal, a glass of wine and a story.
Bill leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Delfina, children Kathy (Sean), Stephanie, (Rick), Robert and Anthony, grandchildren Mark and Abigail, siblings Clara, Aurora, Linda, Joaquim, Rosa Maria, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Bill is predeceased by his parents Maria and Antonio, his brother Manuel and his Tio Alberto.
The family would like to express their thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Thompson General Hospital who helped Bill and the family in the past months.
A celebration of Bill’s life was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Thompson, Manitoba on Thursday, May 24th at 1 pm officiated by Father Guna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
