The Leaf Rapids Health Centre, which began a temporary closure July 28 that was scheduled to last until Aug. 10, reopened for appointments and walk-in visits Aug. 4 thanks to a partnership with Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) and Ongomiizwin Health Services.

Ongomiizwin Health Services, a University of Manitoba-based health service agency that provides health care services to rural and remote northern areas with largely First Nations and Inuit populations, is providing one physician, two registered nurses and one occupational therapist until the end of the temporary closure.

The decision to temporarily close the health centre was made as a result of high-water issues in the areas coupled with staffing issues, the Northern Regional Health Authority said in a July 24 notice on social media.
