Norway House RCMP stopped six impaired drivers in four days April 30 to May 3.
The first of the six was pulled over around 1:15 a.m. April 30 after police saw a vehicle nearly collide with a First Nation Safety Officer’s vehicle on Provincial Road 373. Investigation led to the 45-year-old male driver being arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. He later provided breath samples that were two-and-a-half times the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration while driving of .08.
On Friday afternoon, a vehicle driving erratically and at high speed near the community’s COVID-19 checkpoint was reported to police. The vehicle was located and the 19-year-old female driver arrested. Her breath samples were two times the legal limit.
Around 1:45 a.m. May 2, an 33-year-old man driving an all terrain vehicle was pulled over on suspicion of impaired driving. His breath samples were over twice the legal limit.
On Sunday afternoon at 2:40 p.m., RCMP were called to assist First Nation Safety Officers who had pulled over a vehicle. Investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year-old male driver, whose breath samples were over the legal limit.
The following day, just before 2 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on PR 373 and ended up arresting a 42-year-old male driver who provided breath samples nearly twice the legal limit. He was also found to be breaching a conditional sentence order and remanded into custody.
On Monday evening around 7:30 p.m., officers assisting First Nation Safety Officers who had pulled over a vehicle arrested the 38-year-old male driver. He provided breath samples that were over three times the legal limit.
All of the drivers one received 90-day licence suspensions and had their vehicles seized and impounded. They were released with court dates scheduled for July 22.
