201 new cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba over past three days reported Aug. 26

One-day total topped more than 100 new cases for the first time since June on Wednesday

The number of new COVID-19 infections in Manitoba is rising and topped 100 for the first time since June on Aug. 25.

201 new cases of the virus over the past three days were announced Aug. 26, including 40 on Tuesday, 105 on Wednesday and 56 today. Five previously reported cases were removed due to data corrections for a net increase of 196 over the past three days and the five-day test positivity rate is 2.8 per cent.

153 new cases over four days were announced Aug. 23 and 88 new cases over three days were announced last Thursday.

Ten of Thursday’s new cases are in Northern Manitoba, which has either 50 active cases, according the provincial COVID-19 dashboard, or 45, according to the case totals by health district. 21 of the active cases are in the Island Lake health district, 16 are in The Pas/Opaskwayak/Kelsey, five are in Thompson/Mystery Lake and three are in Pukatawagan/Mathias Colomb.

There are 65 Manitobans in hospital due to the virus, 21 in intensive care. Five northern residents are hospitalized as a result of COVID-19, including two in intensive care.

One new death caused by the virus was reported Aug. 16. 1,189 Manitobans have died as a result of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
