It probably isn’t any surprise to anyone who has walked into Walmart in Thompson recently, given that there have been signs near the entrance, but it is expanding into a Supercentre, with work recently having begun in the area that was previously McDonald’s.
Beyond the fact that the expansion is happening, however, the project is shrouded in mystery, with the media relations department of the retail behemoth unwilling to let further details be known. Or, at least, not yet.
“We can confirm that Walmart Canada is currently renovating the Thompson store into a Supercentre,” said a spokesperson for the company in response to a recent Thompson Citizen inquiry. “We’ll be happy to share further details on the renovation with you in the coming weeks.”
Those promised details will be passed on to readers if and when the Citizen receives them.
