A vehicle breaking a hydro pole guy wire at the Cree Road Thompson Gas Bar Co-op resulted in two short power outages in Thompson May 21.

The outages began around 9:20 p.m., said Manitoba Hydro media relations officer Bruce Owen.

“That collision caused the overheard power lines to bounce and contact one another, causing a brief flash over and outage,” Owen said in an email. “That same flash over caused minor damage to our equipment at a substation on Mystery Lake Road. We needed to take a very brief outage to safely repair it.”

The outage resulting from the damage to the substation equipment lasted about 30 minutes while power to customers affected by the initial outage was restored around 10:40 p.m.
