Vale Manitoba Operations reported the first case of COVID-19 among people who work at the company’s sites in Thompson on Oct. 16, two days after the case was confirmed.
An update sent to company employees said the case involved a local contractor, but the name of the company was kept confidential to protect his privacy.
The person who tested positive was last at work on Oct. 10 and is self-isolating and doing well at home, Vale said.
“Dute to the individual’s role, which has limited exposure to the operations and contact with employees, there is a low risk of transmission to others within our operations,” read the update.
Vale encouraged its employees and contractors to reduce the risk of transmitting or contracting COVID-19 by checking for symptoms every day, washing hands or using hand sanitizer regularly, covering coughs and sneezes, practising physical distancing, wearing a mask and staying home if they have a cold or flu-like symptoms.
