Thompson RCMP handed out 75 traffic tickets Feb. 13-16, including 27 for driving unregistered vehicles, 11 for driving without a valid driver’s licence and 11 for speeding.

Among the unregistered vehicles pulled over was one that was stopped at the intersection of Wolf Street and Deerwood Drive on Feb. 15. The driver had an expired and suspended licence and was also the subject of a Canada-wide driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver arrested and released to appear in court at a later date.

Another unregistered vehicle was a semi-trailer stopped on highway 6 just south of Thompson Feb. 13.

A vehicle stoped at Arctic Drive and Westwood Drive Feb. 13 was being driven by a person whose licence expired 15 years ago and was suspended from driving motor vehicles for life. The driver was ticketed and the vehicle impounded for 30 days.

A driver stopped in the Giant Tiger parking lot Feb. 15 had no licence and a passenger in the vehicle had an unendorsed warrant for their arrest. The passenger was arrested and later released.

Two of the 11 drivers ticketed for speeding were travelling at 34 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limits on Highway 6 and Provincial Road 280, respectively.

RCMP also ticketed two learner’s licence holders for driving without a supervising driver and having unauthorized passengers. One of them, who was stopped in the parking lot of the Burntwood Hotel Feb.16, smelled strongly of alcohol and blew a warning level of blood alcohol content (BAC) on a roadside screening device. The driver was issued a seven-day immediate driving prohibition and had their vehicle impounded for three days. Tickets were also issued for not having a supervising driver, having unauthorized passengers and failing to comply with the terms of their licence, which requires a BAC of zero.

Police also handed out eight tickets for not having a front licence plate, four tickets each for disobeying stop signs or red lights and not wearing seatbelts, three tickets for driving while suspended and one ticket for using a cell phone while driving.
